This knife is over 58 years old and was made for the German market hence the number of 6384 where those made for the rest of the world were model number 6375 or 6377
In great condition for a knife over 58 year old and condition for age would be best described as an original knife in fantastic collectable or usable condition.
The knife has never been used and with a good edge and no chips etc in the blade. It has just a few age marks on the sheath and the blade has a lovely mirror finish.
Close up images show a few tiny marks/scratches on the blade.
These would possibly polish out but we have left this knife in untouched condition
The beautiful Sambar Antler handle is in perfect shape
The leather sheath is in very good condition with Puma stamped on the sheath and the rivets are in great shape with the main fastening stud having the Puma's head stamped on it.
A fine example of a +58 year old Original Pumaster German Market 6384 White Hunter and one of the few 6384 models we have seen.
The PUMA White Hunter model was developed in 1956 in conjunction with the East African Professional Hunter’s Association to be the leading knife for big game hunting.
The Puma White Hunter, introduced in 1956, was in production for Eight years before the introduction of the Puma control number system. This number, a.k.a. Production Code or Date Code was introduced in the 4th Quarter of 1964 to assist PUMA with quality control and product improvement processes.
The White Hunter is the knife that made PUMA famous in the hunting knife market. It also earned them international recognition as a premier maker of quality production knives. This recognition promoted rapid growth in exports. One of there largest markets was the United States.

Description: Current Model White Hunter.
The Famous PUMA® Proofmark - Lots of companies talk about the quality of their steel. PUMA® proves it. We proof every single PUMA® knife blade made in Germany for hardness. If you examine the right hand side of your knife, you will see a small indented dot on the blade. This small dot is the “proof mark” from a Rockwell hardness tester. Using a diamond-pointed needle, every blade is tested for hardness. This needle causes the proof mark that is a symbol of a PUMA and is your personal assurance that your knife will deliver the PUMA® quality promise. Before we package our knives, we know for sure that they deliver the right degree of hardness. If it does not pass, it does not ship.
Features:
Steel – The steel used to make PUMA German knives is the best knife steel in the world. The proper amount of carbon makes a knife easy to sharpen and hold a cutting edge, but it also allows a knife to rust more easily unless other trace elements are added to protect oxidation. In our 440A steel, we add about 1% carbon for a great edge and about 17% chromium to maintain the temper but inhibit rust. About 0.35% Silicon is also added to the base alloy to deoxidize the steel and further stabilize the blade. Additionally, other trace elements such as manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and molybdenum are added to increase the ability of the steel to form an edge and hold it once formed. These trace elements cause the molecules to align more evenly when cooling to give better structural strength and consistency. This is a more expensive way to make knives, but we know that every knife that bears the PUMA proof mark really does deliver the promise of the best knife blade in the world
