Model 13 6369. 'SKIPPER'

Date stamp on the knife is 45874 and it was produced in the 4th Qtr of 1978.

This item is in almost Mint Condition. A very fine 'Skipper' knife which is typically a Diver model with a leg sheath. For a very brief period, the Capri and Skipper were made into a Boat version with the plastic sheath. The sheath would attach to a bulkhead or console in the boat.  Later, it became a boat accessory and a divers knife. This is an exceptionally nice model and one for the collector.

Overall length is 28.5cm, with 15.5cm special D1.4116 steel blade

Rockwell Hardness Test: 55-57 HRC. Half tang. Built-in finger guard. Lanyard hole.

Comes with Black Puma Deck Sheath and original Puma Sharpening instructions.

Knife is Handmade in Solingen, Germany

This is an almost mint Condition knife unsharpened and unused

Model 13 6369 'Skipper' White Hunter and now quite rare and collectable.

One side of the blade is stamped with the Puma Logo and written; 6369 HANDMADE GERMANY PUMA SKIPPER NEW STAINLESS SUPER KEEN CUTTING STEEL .

It has a Hard Black Plastic anti slip handle.

*The diving knife "Capri" was only on sale for a short time in the late 70's to mid-80s and therefore the number of copies in circulation is very small. The Capri of his time was delivered with a plastic sheath from the manufacturer NEMROD, which was attached to the side of the calf with two strong rubber leg straps. Very few models were delivered with a plastic sheath without manufacturer information, where the shape of the sheath and the leg straps are completely different. The Capri is made up of the stainless blade of the White Hunter and a plastic handle like the one found on the Tunny.

The Skipper is the same knife as the Capri and was sold at the same time, but was delivered with the well-known plastic holder for the Boat or Car knife and thus served as a practical "boat knife".

It is a much rarer knife than the CAPRI and they seldom come up for sale.

We also a 1970's Model 6368 'CAPRI' Dive/Boat Knife which can be seen at this link:

Description:

The Famous PUMA® Proofmark - Lots of companies talk about the quality of their steel. PUMA® proves it. We proof every single PUMA® knife blade made in Germany for hardness. If you examine the right hand side of your knife, you will see a small indented dot on the blade. This small dot is the “proof mark” from a Rockwell hardness tester. Using a diamond-pointed needle, every blade is tested for hardness. This needle causes the proof mark that is a symbol of a PUMA and is your personal assurance that your knife will deliver the PUMA® quality promise. Before we package our knives, we know for sure that they deliver the right degree of hardness. If it does not pass, it does not ship.

Features:

Steel – The steel used to make PUMA German knives is the best knife steel in the world. The proper amount of carbon makes a knife easy to sharpen and hold a cutting edge, but it also allows a knife to rust more easily unless other trace elements are added to protect oxidation. In our 440A steel, we add about 1% carbon for a great edge and about 17% chromium to maintain the temper but inhibit rust. About 0.35% Silicon is also added to the base alloy to deoxidize the steel and further stabilize the blade. Additionally, other trace elements such as manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and molybdenum are added to increase the ability of the steel to form an edge and hold it once formed. These trace elements cause the molecules to align more evenly when cooling to give better structural strength and consistency. This is a more expensive way to make knives, but we know that every knife that bears the PUMA proof mark really does deliver the promise of the best knife blade in the world
