SOG Demo Knife SSD01 Description:
The SOG Demo SSD01 is a modernized reproduction of the SCUBA/DEMO, one of the rarest Special Forces SOG knives in existence. Constructed of AUS8 steel with a black TiNi coating, the fixed blade is double edged allowing full length serrated and straight edges. The textured Kraton handle has a generous finger guard and comfortable gripping surface. The blade is 7.2 inches long for an overall length of 11.8 inches. A leather sheath is included to provide secure storage and transportation. The SOG Demo SSD01 is a favourite with both users and collectors alike.

The Scuba/Demo is the rarest of the SOG knives in existence. In fact, only one is known to exist today. Originally, 39 were made and 38 of these were delivered to the Naval Advisory Detachment for missions on the North Vietnamese coastline. They were issued to OPLAN 34 ALPHA in 1964 at which time 36 were lost in operations and two were never seen again.

The US Navy SEALs are one of the most elite specialized military groups in the world. SEALs must undergo a rigorous training program devised to create the consummate warrior. Only a select few endure and are given the right to wear the SEAL Trident.

The knife needed to accompany a Navy SEAL must be just as worthy. The US Government's knife evaluation program included incredible tests that evaluated the following:

• tip breaking strength

• blade toughness

• sharpness and edge retention

• handle twist-off limits

• two-week salt water immersions

• gasoline and acetylene torch resistance

• chopping

• hammering

• prying

• penetration performance

• cutting ability for six different types of rope and nylon line

• low noise and low reflection factors

• intense hands-on training in the field

This one is one of the more favoured blade shapes.
