Knife Description:
VG-1 San Mai is comprised of a core of VG-1 (for maximum edge holding ability) that is sandwiched between two layers of lower carbon steel (for impact resistance and lateral stress resistance).
The Magnum Tanto IX San Mai has a sturdy steel tsuba - style guard, a textured black Kray-Ex Grip with a flat oval configuration that resists twisting in the hand under hard use, and a solid steel skull crusher pommel with integral lanyard hole. The solid steel pommel is another important Tanto feature which Lynn Thompson designed it to concentrate the full force of a crushing blow in a small area so that even a moderately powerful blow can be remarkably effective in disarming or otherwise incapacitating an attacker.
What is a San Mai Blade?
San Mai Blade construction provides a blade with hard (higher carbon) steel in the middle for a keen, long lasting edge and tougher (lower-carbon) steel along the sides for flexibility.
